Financial Navigator for informed consumers
Act CXXXIX of 2013 on the National Bank of Hungary assigns to the MNB the supervision of the financial intermediary system and the protection of the interests of those using services provided by financial organisations.
Within this activity the MNB examines domestic and international market developments, monitors and verifies the lawful operation of institutions, their communication channels and the content of those channels, evaluates news published about financial institutions and service providers through general press monitoring, and analyses the information received through statutory data reporting.
To build an informed consumer society and to reduce the misunderstandings and losses arising from ill-founded or mistaken consumer decisions, the MNB carries out proactive financial consumer protection information activity, operates a professional customer service, and cooperates with partner institutions and with participants of the civil and commercial service sectors.
Information useful in everyday life in matters of finance is available in the Financial Navigator information materials. The Financial Navigator toolkit consists of a financial consumer protection website, a thematic booklet series, educational and one-minute short films, applications supporting product choice and informed decisions, and a mobile application.
Alongside information encouraging well-founded financial decisions, the MNB also provides assistance in handling complaint situations. The staff of the customer service on Krisztina körút in Budapest are available in person, by telephone and in writing, while consumers living far from the capital may turn to the experts of the Financial Navigator Advisory Office Network cooperating with the MNB, in a number of provincial cities.
