On April 11, during the festive assembly held in honor of Debrecen City Day, the city’s highest recognitions were awarded. Among the honorees was Gyula Szűcs, President and CEO of Szinorg Universal Zrt. and Chairman of the Board at HUNÉP Zrt., who received the prestigious title of Honorary Citizen of Debrecen.
This recognition is not only a personal achievement, but also a shared pride for the entire SZINORG Group.
In his celebratory speech, Mayor László Papp stated that today they pay special tribute to those citizens of Debrecen “who have served the city with faith, enthusiasm, commitment, and often with fearless determination.”
A Life Dedicated to Building Debrecen
Gyula Szűcs earned his degree in civil engineering from the Faculty of Civil Engineering at the Budapest University of Technology and Economics. He began his professional career in Debrecen in 1980. Starting as a technical trainee at the predecessor of HUNÉP, he quickly rose through the ranks to become a site manager, and later deputy head of department. From the political transition until 2018, he led the company as President and CEO, playing a key role in the development of many of Debrecen’s iconic buildings.
He continues to be a central figure in the region’s economic and professional landscape, currently serving as President and CEO of Szinorg Universal Zrt., and Chairman of the Board at HUNÉP Zrt.
A Well-Deserved Recognition for Exemplary Work
The honorary citizenship is not the first accolade in his distinguished career. For four terms, he held leadership positions within the Hajdú-Bihar County Chamber of Commerce and Industry. In 2004, he received the Chamber’s highest honor, the Sesztina Award. In 2014, he was awarded the Ödön Lechner Prize by the National Federation of Hungarian Building Contractors.
His dedication, professional excellence, and deep love and loyalty to Debrecen serve as an inspiring example to us all.
