Sensirion’s new production hall and logistics centre in Debrecen has reached its highest point. The leading manufacturer of microsensors and systems is expanding its facility by 7,000 square metres. The EUR 4.5 billion investment, developed and built by SZINORG and Xanga Group, is expected to be completed by September.

Just a little over 100 days after the cornerstone was laid, the new unit of the Swiss company Sensirion’s production base in Debrecen is structurally completed.

In the spirit of sustainability, the plant will not use natural gas at all, but will instead utilise a heat pump and a solar panel system.

At the inauguration ceremony, Lajos Barcsa, deputy mayor of Debrecen, said that we are in the middle of a real success story and the first 100 workers hired in Debrecen have already proven their worth.

“The educational institutions and the labour force in Debrecen have proved that while Sensirion may have a factory and activities in Switzerland, but the unit is Debrecen is no worse than the Swiss one, and Sensirion’s management has decided – and we are already witnessing this – to expand its plant in Debrecen,” Barcsa emphasised.

The new high-tech hall, an investment worth almost HUF 4.5 billion, is financed and built by SZINORG and Xanga Group. As with the first production hall, Sensirion has signed a long-term lease contract.

“This development fits in very well with our group’s strategy, as we are always keen to continue developing for a partner like Sensirion. Our cooperation over the past few years has been characterised by a mutually fair relationship, which I think can be exemplary,” Gyula Szűcs, president and CEO of Szinorg Universal Zrt., emphasised.

The investment is progressing according to plan. The new 7,000-square-metre production hall and logistics centre is expected to be handed over in September.

“Sensirion represents the industry that we always talk about: an innovative manufacturing company with state-of-the-art technology and high added value,” said István Herdon, president and CEO of Xanga Group.

While in 2022 Sensirion’s production plant in Debrecen had a turnover of HUF 1.5 billion, by 2023, this has increased to HUF 6 billion. László Ábrahám, managing director, stressed that the company is preparing for the future and has long-term plans in the city.

“The current workforce of around 100 will be increased to 200, and in the long term even to over 300. We are taking the first steps in this direction today. In the next few days, we will be hiring ten additional employees, which the company needs to meet increased production demands,” said László Ábrahám.

Symbolically, at the topping off ceremony, instead of a symbolic tree branch, an enlarged version of a micro-sensor, made with the help of a 3D printer, was raised to the highest point of the new building.
