Sensirion, a globally renowned manufacturer of digital microsensors and systems, is expanding its Debrecen production facility with a new, 5000-square-metre production hall, an investment in cooperation with the SZINORG and XANGA groups. The sustainability-oriented investment is worth a total of HUF 8.5 billion, and the cornerstone for the new production hall was laid in early February 2024.

Sensirion, a Swiss-based company that has been successfully operating in Debrecen for several years, based the decision to expand its manufacturing capacity on the positive experience of the past two years and the expected growing demand for sensor and module solutions.
The company is building the new production hall in partnership with two major real estate developers in Debrecen, the SZINORG and XANGA groups. The extension will be connected to the existing building and designed with sustainability in mind: it will not rely on fossil energy sources at all and will in fact generate a significant part of its energy used.
The construction will be financed by the SZINORG and XANGA groups in a similar way to the previous plant, under a “build-to-suit” arrangement, for a total amount of around HUF 4.5 billion. The value of the newly installed machinery will exceed HUF 4 billion, which will be financed fully by Sensirion’s Swiss parent company.

Sensirion’s first building in Debrecen, also covering 5,000 square metres, was built jointly by the SZINORG and XANGA groups and was inaugurated in the autumn of 2021 at the Debrecen Regional and Innovation Science Technology Park on Határ Street. The production hall, built by HUNÉP Zrt., is cooled and heated by geothermal energy, the lighting is LED-based and is equipped with presence detectors in most places, and the vast majority of electricity is generated by solar panels. The company was the first to win the Sustainable Debrecen grand prize in 2022.
Sensirion’s management stressed that this partnership is key to the company’s future and that the close cooperation with the SZINORG and XANGA groups will enable it to keep pace with industry changes and maintain its leading position in sensor technology. With this investment, Sensirion will create additional jobs in the Debrecen region and contribute to the development of the local economy.
The first phase of the investment is expected to be completed by the end of this year and the second phase by the first quarter of 2025. Sensirion is looking to the future with optimism, and is not stopping there, with another 2,500-square-metre extension already in the pipeline.
